Dear Mac Bay Families,
In 7th grade art, students are finishing up their aerial perspective city drawings. This will be the last week for students to work on this project in class. As part of this project, students created problems in their cities and learned how to draw a superhero in correct human proportion to save their cities from disaster. Later this week, students will write a letter to the mayor of their city and try to convince them that the mayor should choose their superhero to protect their city. Throughout this unit on aerial perspective, we have made many connections with the common core classes. We tied to the math curriculum when making our windows and learned that they all needed to be parallel with one another. We will also be tying into the language arts classes this week when we write our letters and review the components of formal letter writing: introductory paragraphs, transitions, and concluding remarks. City drawings and superheroes will be sent home with students on Friday if they are not completed and are due Monday when students arrive to class. Please refer to the class website for further details on this project: http://womiddleart.weebly.com/aerial-perspective.html Also, Please ask your son or daughter if they have any homework in art class this weekend. Over the past month, students have received awards in two different art shows:
the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards as well as the Michigan Art Education Association - Region 9 Show Below are details about each art show. Dear Families of West Ottawa,
In 7th grade art, we started the semester by reviewing patterns. We discussed how our patterns were repetitious as well the fact that each person used a variety of patterns in their artwork. Students then made connections between their artwork and Macatawa Bay by focusing on things that we have a variety of at school as well as things that are repetitious just like their artwork. Last week, Wednesday, we started learning about 1 point aerial perspective in which students will create a city from a bird’s eye view. Students will learn about the rules of perspective and how they can help an artist create depth in a drawing. I am looking forward to an exciting semester with your children!
