Dear Mac Bay Families,
We are wrapping up our two-point perspective city drawings this week. Yesterday was the last day for students to work on their projects in class. If students did not finish, the project was to go home with them for it to be completed as homework. Students were allowed to check out supplies if they did not have what they needed at home. The rubric for this project can be found on the class website here: http://womiddleart.weebly.com/two-point-perspective-city-drawing.html The city drawing is due on Friday, February 27. This week, 8th graders will look at Oaxacan wood sculptures that originated out of Arrazola, Mexico. Sculptures from this area are known for their bright colors and patterns. Students will be creating their own Oaxacan inspired vessels out of clay this week and into next week. Students will be using the three handbuilding techniques of pinch, slab, and coil to construct their creature vessels. This clay project is a student favorite. Over the past month, students have received awards in two different art shows:
the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards as well as the Michigan Art Education Association - Region 9 Show Below are details about each art show. Dear Families of West Ottawa,
In 8th grade art, we started the semester by reviewing pattern as well as primary and secondary colors. We discussed how our patterns were repetitious as well the fact that each person used a variety of patterns in their artwork. We then made connections to how these unique qualities of our patterns related to Macatawa Bay. Students were then asked to reflect on these connections through a written paragraph. This week we started two-point perspective drawing. . This project builds upon what student learned last year about 1-point perspective in 7th grade art. We have looked at A Rainy Day by French artist, Gustave Caillebotte. This painting can be found in at the Art Institute of Chicago and measures 83 ½ by 108-3/4 inches which is approximately 7 ft by 9 ft. In addition to artwork, as a class we will look at different types of cities and talk about how we often make judgments based on visual appearance. We will then discussed instances in which it is good or bad to make a judgment based on appearance. Students will be encouraged to think about the architectural details they will incorporate into their city drawings and what kind of impression they want to convey. I look forward to an exciting semester with your children. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey |
