Dear West Ottawa Families,
Students have been working on still-life drawings over the last two weeks. Wednesday is the last day to work on them in class. Whatever is not done will be homework. Students can find images of the still-life on the website to help them finish the shading of their objects. There is also a grading rubric available so students can evaluate themselves on their drawings based on the criteria we talked about in class. Drawings should be turned in by Friday, October 18. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be starting next week. Because I teach at both Macatawa Bay and Harbor Lights, I will be splitting my time as follows: Thursday, Oct.24--HL Tuesday, Oct. 29--MB Thursday, Oct. 31 Morning-MB Thursday, Oct. 31 Afternoon-HL Please feel free to visit me at either location. I look forward to meeting you! Artfully, Rebecca Morrissey Dear Families of West Ottawa,
In 8th grade art, we started the semester by reviewing pattern as well as primary and secondary colors. We discussed how our patterns were repetitious as well the fact that each person used a variety of patterns in their artwork. We then made connections to how these unique qualities of our patterns related to Macatawa Bay or Harbor Lights. Students were then asked to reflect on these connections through a written paragraph. After patterns, we moved onto contour line drawing. We examined different aircraft parts through pictures Mrs. Morrissey captured. Students drew the different aircraft parts and later learned how to abstract them. By looking at the Weeping Woman by Pablo Picasso, students learned that an object can be abstracted by changing its shape, size, color, texture, or perspective. 8th graders are currently working on still-life value drawings in which they are learning to use a view-finder and increase their observational skills. Students are also learning that tone gradation is key to making an object look 3-Dimensional on a 2-Dimensional paper. We hope to finish these drawings toward the middle of next week. Parents, please make sure you are checking your child’s grade on Infinite Campus. Mid-term progress reports will be going home next week but now is the time for students to get caught up on any missing work they may have.
