Just wanted to send a friendly reminder about the 8th grade art exam that is tomorrow, Friday, June 3. All students received a review sheet earlier this week. If they lost it or forgot it at school, they can download it here. Please see below.
Dear Mac Bay Families,
8th graders have been learning about value the last couple weeks. They started out learning how to draw and shade various forms such as a sphere, cube, and cylinder. Next, students built a word sculpture using paper strips. Photographs were then taken of the sculptures and students are learning to use a grid drawing technique to draw the contours of each letter. Once their contour drawings are complete, students will use drawing pencils and shading sticks to add value and contrast to their word drawings. As of May 20, West Ottawa Public Schools will have a new phone system. If you need to reach me, please call 616-786-2000 and my extension is x4432 or x4430. If you have any questions or concerns, you can also reach me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Mac Bay Families,

8th graders started the semester creating a pattern design that incorporated a variety of patterns as well as the primary and secondary color schemes. We looked at artist Piet Mondrian who used simple shapes, lines, and colors in his artwork. After pattern, we moved onto 2-point perspective. Students are currently creating their own cities in two-point perspective and adding interesting architectural details such a columns, balconies, windows, and signs. We plan to complete this project this week in class. Please check Infinite Campus for your child's most current grade. If your child has any missing work, please encourage him or her to get it turned in as soon as possible. Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Mac Bay Families,
It was great to see many of you at conferences on Tuesday evening. If you can't make it this week, we also have conference times available next week Tuesday, November 17 from 5-8pm. I hope to meet you soon! Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey Dear West Ottawa Families,
8th graders finished their Two-point perspective city drawings last week and were introduced to linoleum block printmaking. Students took a safety quiz last week Friday and today 8th graders finished transferring their images to their linoleum . The remainder of the week students will learn how to carve and print their linoleum blocks to create a tri-color print. The work of Pop-Artist, Andy Warhol has served as inspiration for this unit. Please check Infinite Campus for your child's most current grade and encourage your son or daughter to complete and turn in any missing work he or she may have. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected] Sincerely, Mrs. Morrissey |
