Dear Mac Bay Families,
It was great to see many of you at conferences on Tuesday evening. If you haven't yet made it to fall conferences I would like to invite you to come this morning, Thursday, November 12 from 8-11am or this afternoon from 1-4pm. If you can't make it this week, we also have conference times available next week Tuesday, November 17 from 5-8pm. I hope to meet you soon! Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey Dear West Ottawa Families,
Last week 7th graders finished up their Aerial Perspective drawings. As part of this project, students created problems in their cities and learned how to draw a superhero in correct human proportion to save their cities from disaster. Students also wrote a letter to the mayor of their city to try and convince the mayor to choose their superhero to protect the city. Throughout this unit on aerial perspective, we have made many connections with common core classes. We tied to the math curriculum when making our windows and learned that they all needed to be parallel with one another. We will also tied into the language arts classes when we wrote our letters and reviewed the components of formal letter writing: introductory paragraphs, transitions, and concluding remarks. This week students will begin painting their own color wheel and learn about color theory. Please check Infinite Campus for your child's most current grade and encourage your son or daughter to complete and turn in any missing work he or she may have. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected] Sincerely, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Families of West Ottawa,
In 7th grade art, we started the semester by reviewing patterns. We discussed how our patterns were repetitious as well the fact that each person used a variety of patterns in their artwork. Students then made connections between their artwork and Macatawa Bay by focusing on things that we have a variety of at school as well as things that are repetitious just like their artwork. This week we started learning about 1 point aerial perspective in which students will create a city from a bird’s eye view. Students will learn about the rules of perspective and how they can help an artist create depth in a drawing. I am looking forward to an exciting semester with your children! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Mac Bay Families,
7th graders have been working on a color collage. Each student started by sketching out a design and they are currently looking for different colors in magazines to fill their design. In class we looked at the work of Georges Seurat who used the Pointillism technique. Seurat would paint using little dots of color and when the viewer stands back, he or she sees an image. In class we also discussed how pixels work in digital photography. The closeness and number of dots per inch (dpi) there are, the higher the resolution and clearer the picture appears. By studying these different types of artwork, students gained a better understanding of the color collage project and how to create a successful piece of artwork. The color collage is due on Friday, 29. With the end of the year coming to a close, please encourage your child to demonstrate the R.O.C.K.S. character traits: Respect Ownership Compassion Knowledge Success If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected]. Sincerely, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Mac Bay Families,
Next week Thursday, the West Ottawa Art Department will be holding a Spring Art Show at the Holland Town Center! Please mark this exciting event on your calendar and come on out to see what our talented students have been working on this year! Dear Mac Bay Families,
In 7th grade art, students have been learning how to draw realistically through observational drawing. A still-life of various objects is set-up in the middle of the room and each student has a slightly different perspective of the objects. Students are learning how to use a viewfinder to help them narrow their focus and transfer what they were seeing onto their paper in the right proportion and placement. After sketching in their objects, students begin adding value to make their drawings appear more realistic. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected]. Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey Dear Mac Bay Families,
Please check Infinite Campus to see if your child has any missing work for art class. If students are missing their writing assignments, they can find copies of the directions on the class website. I would also like to invite you to Spring Conferences. Please stop by to see some of the projects your children have been working on and hear about their progress in art class! I will be available on Thursday March 26 from 1-4pm & 5-8pm. I look forward to seeing you! Artfully, Mrs. Morrissey
Dear Mac Bay Families,
In 7th grade art, students are finishing up their aerial perspective city drawings. This will be the last week for students to work on this project in class. As part of this project, students created problems in their cities and learned how to draw a superhero in correct human proportion to save their cities from disaster. Later this week, students will write a letter to the mayor of their city and try to convince them that the mayor should choose their superhero to protect their city. Throughout this unit on aerial perspective, we have made many connections with the common core classes. We tied to the math curriculum when making our windows and learned that they all needed to be parallel with one another. We will also be tying into the language arts classes this week when we write our letters and review the components of formal letter writing: introductory paragraphs, transitions, and concluding remarks. City drawings and superheroes will be sent home with students on Friday if they are not completed and are due Monday when students arrive to class. Please refer to the class website for further details on this project: http://womiddleart.weebly.com/aerial-perspective.html Also, Please ask your son or daughter if they have any homework in art class this weekend.
